Identification via finger template

Whether the use of a finger template is generally possible at your school depends on the caterer or the school. If you do not see the setting in your account, it is unfortunately not available at your school.

For easy and quick identification of your child at food distribution, they can identify themselves via their children. To change the setting, log in as an adult and then switch to:

My customer account/Master data/Identification via fingerprint template

What information about the finger is stored?

User fingerprint scans are not stored as photographic evidence, but as a verification code on the respective device. This code, also called a template, is encrypted and associated with the user’s personal ID. This ensures the highest possible level of anonymity within the system, as no other personal data is stored with this template. No unencrypted transmission occurs via insecure channels. Templates can be deleted at any time upon request.

Technical Procedure

The terminal’s biometric reader creates a digital image of a fingerprint based on unique features (so-called minutiae) of the individual’s fingertip. The visual fingerprint image itself is not stored. The resulting finger template is generated using a complex mathematical algorithm and stored as a reference.

The detected minutiae (https://www.itwissen.info/Minutien-Fingerabdruck-minutiae-finger-print.html) are converted into a digital code (finger template) using an algorithm. This calculated template is stored as a reference template in the terminal’s memory. This process is therefore comparable to a stored PIN code, such as for a debit card.

These codes are only usable within the terminal itself. When a user authenticates at a booking terminal, the currently scanned fingerprint is converted into a template and compared with the previously stored reference template. A match is verified solely based on the calculation of this template. The comparison is therefore based exclusively on digital values. A visual image of the fingerprint is never stored!

It is not possible to create a visual image from this code/finger template that could then be used for other purposes. According to the current state of technology, this method ensures that a person can be uniquely and legally identified without violating data protection regulations or the individual’s personal rights.

Objection to the use of the finger template

If the use of a finger template is refused, our long experience has shown that delays or even mix-ups often occur when ordering food. We want to avoid such unpleasant circumstances to your child’s detriment!

Your advantages with the finger template:

  • Quick identification of the child at the output
  • This is not a classic fingerprint
  • Any potential misuse of registered data is reliably ruled out.
  • Conversion of individual finger characteristics into a barcode

Using the finger template allows our dispensing terminal to correctly assign ordered meals to the right children. **Therefore, we recommend that you agree to the use of the finger template for your child’s well-being.
