Identification via finger template

Whether the use of a finger template is generally possible in your school depends on the caterer or the school. If you don’t see the setting in your account, unfortunately it isn’t available at your school.

To ensure quick and easy identification of your child when collecting food, they can identify themselves using their child’s name. To change the setting, log in as an adult and then switch to:

My customer account/master data/identification via fingerprint template

What information about the finger is stored?

User fingerprint scans are stored not as photo documents, but as a verification value on the respective device. This code, also called a template, is encrypted or assigned to the user’s ID. This ensures the highest possible level of anonymity in the system, as no other personal data is stored with this template. No unencrypted transmission takes place over insecure channels. Templates can be deleted at any time upon request.

Technical process

The terminal’s biometric reader creates a ‘digital image’ of a fingerprint based on unique features (so-called minutiae of the personal fingertip. The visual fingerprint image is not stored. The resulting so-called finger template is created using a complex mathematical algorithm and stored as a reference.

The recognized minutiae are converted into a digital code (fingerprint template) using an algorithm. This calculated template is stored as a reference template in the terminal’s memory. This process is comparable to a stored PIN code, such as that used on an EC card.

These codes can only be used within the on-site terminal. If a user wishes to authenticate at a booking terminal, the currently scanned fingerprint is converted into a template and compared with the previously saved reference template. A match between the code and the template is verified solely by calculating this template. The comparison is therefore based solely on digital values. A visual image of the fingerprint is never stored.

There’s no way to create a visual image from this code/finger template that could then be used for other purposes. This process, based on current technology, ensures that a person can be clearly and legally identified without violating data protection guidelines or the person’s personal rights.

Objection to the use of the finger template

In our many years of experience, if the use of a finger template is objected to, delays or even mix-ups often occur when distributing ordered meals. We want to avoid such unpleasant circumstances, to the detriment of your child, whenever possible!

Your advantages of the finger template:

  • Quick recognition of the child at the output
  • This is not a classic fingerprint
  • Possible misuse of registered data is reliably excluded
  • Conversion of individual characteristics of a finger into a barcode

Using the finger template allows our distribution terminal to assign ordered meals to the correct children. Therefore, we recommend agreeing to the use of the finger template for your child’s benefit.
